PPA JOINS DOJ DEVELOPMENT PLANNING SESSION
Parole and Probation Administration (PPA) aims to enhance offender reformation program by strengthening reintegration approaches and developing impact assessment measures of rehabilitation programs by 2018.
This was the commitment of the Agency during the development planning conference of the Department of Justice (DOJ) and all its attached agencies held last February 27-28, 2017 in Tagaytay City.
The PPA together with the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) and the Justice Department targeted CY 2018 to be able to conduct and complete the study on impact assessment of the different rehabilitation programs being implemented. Construction of halfway houses is identified as one of the strengthening measures of the reintegration program of the corrections cluster of the DOJ. Under the Department’s strategic directions, the cluster will pursue reforms in the corrections system, which also included support establishment of unified corrections system and uniform inmate/offender management standards, system and procedure; implement the BuCor Modernization Act; establish adequate and humane prison facilities; review and reform the bail bond system and enhance parole and executive clemency procedures.
The planning session was attended by Planning Officers of the DOJ and its attached agencies. It aimed to review and determine the strategic framework of the Department, discuss initial assessment information and challenges, determine key strategies for the plan period as well as agree and provide further guidance for the public investment program. The DOJ Development Plan covers the period CY 2017-2022.
The planning session was facilitated by the Planning and Statistics Division of the DOJ.
PPA CONDUCTS OPERATIONAL PLANNING AND EXECUTIVE CONFERENCE
Performance targets for 2017 and plans and priority programs for 2018 top billed the operational planning conference of the top management of the Parole and Probation Administration (PPA) held on February 21-22, 2017 at Westown Hotel, Mandurriao, Iloilo City.
Attended by all regional, assistant regional directors and division chiefs of the Central Office, the conference was highlighted with discussion of the specific performance targets for investigation, supervision and rehabilitation services of the Agency for the current year. The targets are in support and in line with the Development Plan of the Department of Justice (DOJ) for 2017-2022.
Mr. Ryan C. Thomas, Officer-in-Charge of the Office of the Director, Planning and Management Services of the DOJ was the resource speaker during the planning conference.
In the morning of February 23, 2017, a dialogue was held with USec. Reynante B. Orceo, Undersecretary for Corrections, DOJ, and the local officials of Guimaras Province led by Governor Samuel T. Gumarin, MD and Vice-Governor, Atty. Edward G. Gando as well as the officials of PPA. After the dialogue, a sumptuous lunch was served courtesy of the local government.
In the afternoon, the participants proceeded to the proposed site for the halfway house for the clients of PPA-Region VI in Brgy. Lanipe, Nueva Valencia, Guimaras Province. USec. Reynante B. Orceo led the ceremonial cutting of the ribbon for the proposed halfway house.
